Stunned
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved to the heart of the sea..." Psalm 46:1-2
My husband's death felt like the earth beneath my feet had just crumbled and fallen into the sea. I was stunned, exhausted, had no appetite, and to a degree, overwhelmed by disbelief. Knowing the next few days would be filled with family, friends, and big decisions, I turned off my cell phone and poured my whole heart out to the Lord for the 40 minute drive home from the hospital. I let it all go. It went something like this: "Help me. I don't know how to do this. Lead me through this mess." The Lord heard my "ask." I tangibly felt his love blanketing me like a reassuring hug. "I will never leave you nor forsake you." The comfort of God's manifest presence is available for his children regardless of our situation, time, or place. Ask your ask, and receive.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, you consider precious the death of your saints. Although we grieve, and feel the world around us shaken, we are not without you, our solid foundation. Thank you for gifting us with your Holy Spirit, and for the comforting warmth of your manifest presence. Thank you for accompanying us as we journey forward through this thing we call life.
