Let the Children Come

Writer's picture: Rev. Fred Hartley, IIIRev. Fred Hartley, III

"But Jesus called them to him, saying, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.’" Luke 18:16

Don’t be surprised if your children are more ready, willing, and able to pray than you are. Just give them a chance, and it may surprise you just how much they love God’s manifest presence.

The disciples tried to buffer children from bothering Jesus, but he quickly rebuked them. If you have underestimated your children’s interest in prayer, or ability to pray, God calls you to repent. Rather than hindering your children, God wants you to encourage them to enjoy his presence.

Loving Father, I call out to you in repentance now in Jesus’ name—forgive me for underestimating my children’s capacity to draw near to your presence. From this day forward, I declare let children come...for such belongs the kingdom of God.
